Investing Where Access to Healthcare Matters Most
Quality healthcare is out of reach for millions, simply because of where they live. That's where we step in. We invest in established healthcare companies that bring care closer to home for patients while targeting competitive, risk-adjusted returns for investors.

Healthcare for Underserved Communities
Pharos Capital was co-founded by a former ER doctor who witnessed vulnerable patients cycle through his hospital without the supports to keep them healthy. He saw another way to serve his patients. He went upstream to address what medicine alone couldn't.
Dr. Kneeland Youngblood and his co-founders created a private investment firm in 1998. In 2013, they narrowed their focus to investing in companies that reduce disparities in healthcare in the United States.
Our Investment Strategy

Healthcare capital should go where it's needed most.
5T
The U.S. spends at least $5 Trillion annually on healthcare,
The communities with the greatest needs tend to receive the least private capital. Yes, it’s complex and challenging. At the same time, there’s opportunity to profoundly influence patient outcomes especially in areas and markets where there’s such a lack of quality healthcare.
Our portfolio companies do better when our patients do better.
100%
We invest in underserved areas, focusing on rural and urban communities as well as Native American Tribal lands.
The communities with the greatest need have the greatest room for improvement. Addressing these challenges creates value for the healthcare system and for our investors. Our companies grow when we can improve care and increase access for patients.
Your capital should have an address.

The Origin Story of Pharos

Hear the Pharos story from former ER doctor and co-founder, Dr. Kneeland Youngblood.
The Pharos
Difference
We invest in healthcare companies that can create sustainable change for patients and value for investors. We believe these are the essential pillars of holistic patient care.

Chronic Disease Management
Long-term care models that reduce hospitalization, improve quality of life, and lower total cost per patient.

Medication Management
Systems that ensure the right medication reaches the right patient at the right time, reducing adverse events and unnecessary cost.

Social Determinants of Health
Addressing housing, transportation, education, work environment, nutrition, and other holistic factors alongside clinical care.

Prevention & Early Detection
Catching conditions before they become debilitating. Lower costs. Better outcomes. Fewer emergency visits.

Bringing Care Closer to Home
Meeting the patient where they are or moving care to a location that’s more convenient can increase patient compliance and drive better outcomes.

Underserved Communities
Every investment carries an intense focus on the populations that tend to be overlooked by traditional investors: rural, urban, and tribal communities across America.
Delivered by a firm built with a clear focus on healthcare.
1. Founded by a physician, not a financier.
Our CEO and co-founder spent twelve years in the emergency room before building this firm. That clinical lens shapes every investment we make.
2. Partners together for more than 25 years.
The Pharos partners have worked together through multiple economic cycles and market opportunities.
3. We bring leadership, resources, and capital.
Many healthcare companies in underserved markets are led by practicing physicians who cannot dedicate 100% of their time to growth. We source seasoned healthcare operators and place them alongside existing leadership. We bring relationships that enhance revenue or reduce costs. We connect our companies with each other to share best practices and look for synergies and ways of working together within our portfolio.
4. Impact verified by a third party.
Our impact data is collected by independent consultants. We measure against all 14 GIIN (Global Impact Investing Network) IRIS+ healthcare metrics and align with six UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Three Ways to Work with Pharos
Whether you're allocating capital or building a healthcare company, we start with the same question: does this serve the communities that need it most?

Investors
Pharos partners with foundations, family offices, and institutional investors who want competitive returns from healthcare companies serving underserved communities.

Founders & Operators
We invest $25 to $50 million in established, U.S.-based healthcare companies positioned to reduce disparities in underserved communities and scale toward a potentially successful exit. If your company fits that profile, we want to hear from you.

Healthcare Partners
If you are a payor, hospital, health system, or governmental agency that services rural, tribal, or other complex underserved populations, we would welcome the opportunity to share existing solutions we have identified or to use our network to source new solutions for the problems these communities face.
